Steven Wayne Getz, 50, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, passed away on January 18th, 2024. He was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1973 to Terry Wayne Getz and Elizabeth Jo Warren (Betty Jo). Steven graduated from Mayfield High School in 1991. After graduation, He attended Dallas Institute of Funeral Service receiving an associate degree in applied science of Funeral Service in 2000. Returning to Las Cruces to join his father in the family business. Steven’s heart and compassion were not only helping families in their great time of need but further improving the integrity of the funeral industry by serving on the Board of New Mexico Funeral Service Association, eventually receiving the title of president. While serving the board he was elected to represent the state, as a policy board member with the National Funeral Directors Association, where he served for 16 years. In his pursuit to establish himself as an exceptional funeral director, he was amongst the first in the city to obtain his Certified Funeral Service Practitioners certificate, from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice.
Steven was a loving Father, Grandfather, Son, and Friend. He was adored by his two grandchildren Jaxon and Ryan. He was an avid Fisherman and Golfer. You could always find him with a golf club or fishing pole in his hands. His grandchildren were the light of his life and loved teaching them how to golf and fish. When Steven wasn’t on the golf course or pond, he would be cheering on his favorite sports teams (which changed weekly). He was a sports fanatic and would watch anything considered a sport. His family and friends loved him, and he will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by: Mothers; Betty Jo Getz, Lucille A. Getz, Grandparents; Robert & Opal Getz, Charles & Bess Warren, Mamacille (Lucille Darden), Uncle; Jimmy Warren, Aunt; Connie Lopez, and Niece; Rylei Getz.
Survived by his two sons; Tristyn Getz (Angela), and Tanner Getz of Las Cruces, NM, (Taylor and Tessa of Rockwall, TX), father; Terry Getz of Las Cruces, siblings; Bryan Getz of Texas City, TX, Chad Getz (Christi) of Las Cruces, NM, and Raquel Frazier of Oklahoma City, OK, Nephew Garrett Getz (Mariah) Killeen, TX, grandchildren; Jaxon and Ryan, Uncle; Danny Warren, and loving Aunt Carroll Warren Curtis.
A public gathering will be held at Getz Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 23rd, 2024, from 5:00pm – 6:00pm with Rosary to follow starting at 6:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held on the following day, Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, at NM Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum, starting at 10:30 am. Burial will take place at Masonic Cemetery following the Funeral services.
